All parents eventually face the decision to leave their child home alone for the first time. Whether they are just running to the store for a few minutes or working during after-school hours, parents need to be sure their child has the skills and maturity to handle being at-home safely. Being trusted to stay home alone can be a positive experience for a child who is mature and well prepared and can also boost the child’s confidence while promoting independence and responsibility. However, children face real risks when left unsupervised. Those risks, as well as a child’s comfort level and ability to deal with those challenges, must be considered.  In this class, we will go over safety issues inside and outside the home. We will talk about how comfortable the child is.  We will also address computer safety for children and how and when to call 911.
