Since 1995, Marcy’s Tennis Academy (MTA) has brought the fundamentals of tennis to over 50 schools and community organizations and is very excited to bring MTA to Swampscott through the recreation department. Give your child a chance to learn the lifetime sport of tennis in a fun-filled environment. We emphasize character-building and sportsmanship while offering a fantastic time!Participants must wear appropriate clothing for running and being active. Sneakers are a must. Please send children with a bottle of water.This program will be taking place inside Swampscott High School's gymnasium except on 1/10/26 and 1/31/26, the program will take place at Swampsott Middle School (enter on the door around the back of the buiding).

Let’s Write a Book!For 3rd and 4th grade studentsIs your child full of creative ideas just waiting to be turned into a story? Let’s take that imagination and make a book! Who knows, you could have the next Dr. Suess, JK Rowling, or RL Stine living in your house! Taught by professional writer and editor Maia Gosselin, this four-part class will cover the A-Zs of story writing. Together, we will work on brainstorming a subject, draft writing, storyboarding, peer feedback, and revisions. By the end of this class, students will: Create an original story (adventure, ghost, mystery, poetry) Learn how real authors plan, draft, revise, and publish Illustrate their own book Hold a finished book they wrote themselves! About the instructor: Maia Gosselin has been an editor and a freelance writer for more than twenty years and is the author of the recently published children’s picture book The Mermaid's Tear. She holds a master’s degree in children’s literature and was the longtime volunteer library coordinator at Hadley Elementary School. She is known for her laid-back and engaging approach to education.

Native seeds need to experience “winter” in order to germinate.  In this class Erin, owner of The New Yankee Garden will present several methods to mimic nature to help get seeds started for spring.  Topics will include: The importance of native plants Best places to get native seeds and some native plant resources Methods to pretreat seeds, including winter sowing and refrigerator stratification Participants will be provided with the materials for a variety of starting methods and seeds to get started on their own native plant gardens.

Join us for a fun 6-week sports program for children of all abilities to learn the fundamentals of Baseball & Soccer (Session 1) and Basketball and Floor Hockey (Session 2)! Classes are non-competitive and are perfect for beginners or for children who are looking for small class sizes taught by well-trained coaches. Inclyousion Sports provides all equipment and children only need to bring water and wear comfortable clothes and shoes. This program is designed for children with and without disabilities to learn and play together. Skill building is focused on running, kicking, throwing, catching and hitting, and is modified to each child’s experience level. Inclyousion Sports provides inclusive sports enrichment programs to children, using innovative behavioral methods to teach sports, fitness, and social skills. Our class format is developed to give our budding soccer stars a familiar framework in which they can excel from class to class.  Our classes begin with a welcome, incorporating a song for the early stages age groups (2 year olds–5 year olds). The classes then kick off with a dynamic warm-up followed by muscle-warming stretches to get everyone ready for action.The bulk of each class focuses on skill development activities and games which include progression, pressure and direction with an ending point (i.e. goal or end line). Since 1995, Marcy’s Tennis Academy (MTA) has brought the fundamentals of tennis to over 50 schools and community organizations and is very excited to bring MTA to Swampscott through the recreation department. Give your child a chance to learn the lifetime sport of tennis in a fun-filled environment. We emphasize character-building and sportsmanship while offering a fantastic time!Participants must wear appropriate clothing for running and being active. Sneakers are a must. Please send children with a bottle of water.This program will be taking place inside Swampscott High School's gymnasium except on 1/10/26 and 1/31/26, the program will take place at Swampsott Middle School (enter on the door around the back of the buiding).

Let’s Write a Book!For 3rd and 4th grade studentsIs your child full of creative ideas just waiting to be turned into a story? Let’s take that imagination and make a book! Who knows, you could have the next Dr. Suess, JK Rowling, or RL Stine living in your house! Taught by professional writer and editor Maia Gosselin, this four-part class will cover the A-Zs of story writing. Together, we will work on brainstorming a subject, draft writing, storyboarding, peer feedback, and revisions. By the end of this class, students will: Create an original story (adventure, ghost, mystery, poetry) Learn how real authors plan, draft, revise, and publish Illustrate their own book Hold a finished book they wrote themselves! About the instructor: Maia Gosselin has been an editor and a freelance writer for more than twenty years and is the author of the recently published children’s picture book The Mermaid's Tear. She holds a master’s degree in children’s literature and was the longtime volunteer library coordinator at Hadley Elementary School. She is known for her laid-back and engaging approach to education.

Each day, students will complete a finished project and build a collection of handcrafted accessories to take home. This Tuesday–Friday program runs from 9:00–11:30am, and the class materials fee is $166. Perfect for aspiring makers who love hands-on art and learning new skills!

Modern American Canasta: Modern American Canasta is the version of the game played most often in the North Shore area. Students learn the basics of the game and simple strategies, and should be able to join existing drop-in groups in the area following the session. 5 week session| No experience necessary| Materials & supplies provided  Linda Garber has been teaching Modern American Canasta in the North Shore area for several years and has enjoyed playing Canasta for more than 40 years.
